Cookie policy
drawn up in accordance with the Data Protection Authority’s Provision of 8 May 2014
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text strings that websites visited by the user send to their device, where they are stored before being sent back to the same websites on the user’s next visit. For the purposes of this policy, cookies are categorised as technical or profiling cookies, depending on the function for which they are used, and as first-party or third-party cookies, depending on who sets them.
Technical
cookies Technical cookies are used solely for the purpose of “carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide that service” (see Article 122(1) of the Privacy Code). Technical cookies are divided into navigation or session cookies (which ensure normal navigation and use of the website), analytics cookies (treated as technical cookies where used directly by the website operator to collect information, in aggregated form, on the number of users and how they visit the site) and functionality cookies (which allow the user to navigate according to a set of selected criteria, such as language, in order to improve the service provided to them). No prior consent from the data subject is required for the installation and use of technical cookies.
Profiling
cookies Profiling cookies are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user whilst browsing the internet. The data subject’s consent is required for the use of profiling cookies.
Third-party
cookies Depending on who installs the cookies on the user’s device – whether it is the operator of the website the user is visiting, or a different website that installs cookies via the former – a distinction is made between first-party cookies and third-party cookies.
